Mailing list & server changes
New server:
It’s still amazing where all the time goes and it is some time since you heard from me but we have not been idle here.
We have for some time been experiencing various problems with bounced emails and blocked ISPs, meaning that subscribers with certain ISPs could not receive my emails. Our mailing list also exceeds the mailshot limit imposed by our server so a change was needed. We now have set up our own server just for TimRudman.com and hope these problems will now be finally resolved.
We also now have a new versatile newsletter software written for us by our good friends at Touchstone Direct.
IMPORTANT!
We have now merged the two mailing lists of 'World of Lith Printing' and 'Tim Rudman.com' as they both serve the same common purposes.
However, as part of this exercise, could I ask ALL my old WOLP subscribers to re-confirm their subscription to this new newsletter using the link at the end of this email. You can download your free report at the same time!
1) World of Lith Printing list - subscribers are NOT automatically confirmed on this new list and this is the ONLY communication that will go to WOLP subscribers that are not newly confirmed after today. If you do not reconfirm you will not hear from me again so please take a moment to do it now and download your free lith materials report. It takes only a second to do.
2) TimRudman.com list - subscribers do not need to reconfirm PROVIDED that you did respond to your 'confirm' email that should have been sent to the email address you gave when you subscribed.
Several of you have never confirmed and although you get this newsletter now, you won't get any more unless you do so.
Remember, you can now unsubscribe at any time using the link at the end of every newsletter.
I have updated my latest report on Lith Printing Materials, and am offering it to members of my mailing list for free. All you have to do to obtain your copy is visit the FREE REPORT download link at the end of this email.
More new product information has been anticipated for a little while now but was still not available in time for this newsletter, so watch this space. I will attempt to keep you updated.
Autumn 2008 workshop review & future plans:
Four weeks ago I returned home from 7 weeks in the US - three weeks of Lith Printing workshops that rounded up the season at The Photographer’s Formulary Workshop in Montana, followed by a few weeks on the road, shooting at some favourite and some new locations. I hope to be posting new work from this soon on the website, once all the film processing and contacting has been done.

The first week was a week of structured learning and printing, taking participants from beginner status right through to the more advanced techniques of 2-bath lith, bleach-and-redevelopment in lith and various toning techniques – quite a packed week.
The ‘Alumni’ weeks were unstructured and self-directing, allowing everyone to pursue their own particular interests, techniques and projects, but with plenty of one-on-one time for advice, mini tutorials, folio reviews and demos as well as lots of printing with help on tap. If there is enough demand we plan to make these available again in October 2009. Details will be posted on the website when they are known.

It's wonderful to see that so many people are still passionate about darkroom work and the art & craft of print making. As usual, we had workshop participants coming to Montana from all corners of the USA and Canada. The sound of laughter ringing around the the rooms is always a validation of my belief that we all learn best when we are playing. You can see some of the 'student's comments on my website, along with some of the very varied imagery produced, which is shown in my alumni gallery. Take a look and maybe you would like to join us?
The 3rd edition of this darkroom classic by Steve Anchell has just been released and I was delighted to be asked to contribute an article and help edit the toning section of this expanded version. An impressive list of darkroom luminaries have been involved in this new enlarged edition and many fans of the earlier versions will certainly want to upgrade to the new one, whilst newcomers to it will quickly become immersed in this Aladdin’s cave of processes, techniques, tips, formulae and down to earth explanations.
The new contributors are: Bruce Barnbaum, Rod Dresser, Jay Dusard, Patrick Gainer, Richard Garrod, Henry Gilpin, Gordon Hutchings, Sandy King, Les McLean, Saïd Nuseibeh, France Scully Osterman, Mark Osterman, Tim Rudman, Ryuijie, John Sexton, and John Wimberly.
You can read all about it here: http://www.elsevierdirect.com/product.jsp?isbn=9780240810553 (depending on the country you are in you may also have to click on the ‘focal press’ link under ‘Imprints’ and enter ‘darkroom cookbook’ into the search box)

Information for my UK subscribers: I will be having an exhibition at The Lightbox (see here) next summer for two months from May 19th - July 26th, 2009. I will send more details about the show nearer the time.
They are currently showing Bob Dylan’s Drawn Blank exhibition before it leaves on its world tour. A fascinating show with a very reasonably priced hardback book to accompany it. Well worth visiting.
I am pleased to have been involved in two Arena exhibitions over the last few months and those of you in the South East of the UK may like to visit the current one, which is still on at Guildford House Gallery until January 3rd 2009. I apologise for the lateness of this item, as much of the supporting programme is now over, but there is still just time to catch the exhibition. The delay was due to delays waiting for the new newsletter software.
16 members of Arena have portfolios of work on show at this venue and details of the exhibition, a supporting programme of lectures and gallery tours together with information about the Arena group may be found on the gallery website here:
http://www.guildford.gov.uk/GuildfordWeb/Leisure/GuildfordHouse/Exhibitions/Arena/
and on Arena’s website: http://www.arenaphotographers.com/
Best wishes,
